Mark founded it with his college roommates while he was studying at the university. At first it was limited for the Harvard students, but then was extended to all the American universities, and finally to anyone over 13 years old. The website currently has more than 350 million active users worldwide.

It’s the most used social network followed by MySpace with a very big difference.

There have been many reports and complaints to the publicity offered by Facebook, but Mr.Zukerberg affirmed that it will not be for a long time because the company doesn’t need more capital.

When MySpace was sold to a major company, some rumours about selling Facebook to a large company started. Mark had already said he didn’t want to sell the company.

Facebook's effect on the American political system became clear in 2008, when it allowed its users to comment and participate in debates between the Republican and Democratic parties.

Facebook has been censured in many countries like China, Iran, Syria or Vietnam, and banned at work places, because the employees waste their time in it. Facebook privacy with the intellectual propriety usually has been a problem and has compromised it many times.

Criticism of facebook

There are many criticisms about facebook, like the useless privacy, the permittivity to group’s pro-anorexia and Anti-semitic ideological and other inappropriate content or the psychological addiction to it.

Mark Zuckerberg, gerent of facebook, declareaas that the information posted by the users of facebook is never deleted if the user wants to open his account again but social net still can use this information. This means that the photos or posts that you put in facebook will be forever in the net.

The groups with inappropriate content are many, but the most criticized are the Anti-semitic groups which criticize the Jewish way or the pro-anorexia/bulimia that the British eating disorder organization censored because they were spreading the anorexia and bulimia among young people.

Facebook has been criticized to delete content related to Kurdistan. There is a censorship in Turkey that prevents 25 millions of Kurds and all Turks to join Kurdistan groups and pages. Facebook doesn’t reply the critics about the Kurdistan problem.
